-[bLaK.]

iareconscious:

A net friend, I randomly hit up in gchat said she was in NYC… Her aunt passed away, so she’s with family.

I shared with her some thoughts.. My lil rant on the events surrounding funerals…

Over the years I’ve come into an interesting appreciation for funeral services and things that surround the event.

I honestly feel it is definitely a celebration of life.

Much can be learned. And your mind definitely goes over a train of thought that you generally do not visit until you’re part of this type of situation…

Like anything it’s simply a matter of what you can take from the experience.

It’s a part of life. It’s great if you can grow from it. Or dig a lil deeper.

Seeing that I have not the most common way to address ‘death’ for a westerner I have to make adjustments when communicating my feelings about these things with others in respect to how they exercise their own. I also have to remind myself it is just fine to feel as I do. People have a way of trying to convince you that their way is the ‘right’ way. There is no right way. That’s a whole other mess of conversation, save for a later date.

Don’t let the world question whether or not you have feelings, if you so happen to express those feelings that you do have in an unconventional way. No one has to understand it but you. ;)

Good point Summer -[bLaK.]

passportharlem:

I guess I should say that I do find a few instances where the phrase is appropriate. What I failed to mention in my response, though, is that I’ve been in too many spaces where the term is employed in ways that really obscures privilege—and I think intentionally. Where I have been left feeling like the term was used to deny how the speaker may, in fact, have access to white privilege that others listening do not. So, if at all, I think it should be used sparingly.

I also understand how this term can be used as a means of solidarity. But I am often wary of solidarity, and what one loses or compromises in the name of it. Look no further than the occupy movement for a decent example of this. I just need/prefer that people be really vigilant and honest when using the term. And I want people to understand and articulate how they experience and benefit from white oppression whenever possible.

chaosthethird:

Yes, thank you for such a comprehensive response. I actually struggled to define “people of color” in a concise way, recognizing that it did rely upon whiteness as a mirror. And yet, while I agree with most of what you’re saying, I do find some utility in the term, just in that I feel unity…

What vehicle architecture is most appropriate for global markets in the 21st century? Jim Kor, designer of the futuristic Urbee car shares his One Great Idea for changing the future of automotive transport.

Kor presented his vision at the 2011 State of Green Business Forum in Chicago, laying out how sustainable design for transport can change the world.

According to Kor, the solution resides in sustainable design, which is why he designed Urbee in 1996. Cars nowadays have big grills and exhaust pipes, Kor said.

“Think the total opposite of a typical car and you’re getting close to what we are talking about here, which is a low energy car,” Kor said.

The Urbee car was designed using existing technologies and with the idea that cars should be easy to understand, maintain, repair and rebuild after a long life, he noted. Kor likened the Urbee to a Model T of the 21st century, or “the Volkswagen Beatle with emission and safety improvements,” he said.

Urbee runs on energy from sunlight that hits solar panels on land or on a garage, as well as ethanol. The car would need to be plugged in to tap into the sun’s energy source.

“It would be like winning fuel for life,” he said.

studio1203:

Urbee // a green vehicle I could use about now in my life.
